After working some years at Oxygen as a pop culture network I was lucky enough to be part of the team for the 2017 True Crime Rebrand we created in partnership with Trollbäck+Company. It was a beautiful package with a marketing strategy centered around our positioning as the true crime TV network and it was a fun journey being a shepard of the evolution of the brand design.
Role: Art Director + Designer at Oxygen
I was also honored this year to be included in an exciting project called CrimeCon 2019, a 5,000 attendee celebration of our true crime.
In researching possible vendors I found an example of an LED video We ideated Oxygen Live, an exciting talent interview hub with two simultaneous live-feeds on social media with a total of 2,865,781 impressions.
I had hands on participation on all screens, graphics, print, social, booth, props swag and on-location still photography for the convention.
Role: Art Direction, Design and On-site quality control at Oxygen
Incredible extras made for a campaign with the incomparable Ice-T including an interesting animated social art series created by the artist, Frank Knitty.
I was able to lean into doing my own fun copywriting for the social pieces in a way that leaned into Ice-T’s captivating personality. He personally loved the Talking Pop-up Valentines Day Card and had us send some out to his people as well.
I was also honored to to be part of the team that received a Promax North American Gold for Online Takeover or roadblock promotion for this project.

The special spin on this show is that the Killer is the last person who you would expect. I created a collage of faces (with just stock photography) fractured through broken glass and wrote a bespoke tagline to pull it all together.
Role: Art Direction, Composite Finisher and Design at Oxygen
CrimeCon 2018 was a fantastic project with many learnings and wins all set to the crescendo of Nashville, Tennessee (at one of the largest indoor conference buildings in America.) We created a slick booth, interactive experiences and enough swag to make our name known as the New Network for Crime and the premiere sponsor of the event.

Cold Justice was my first time working on rebranding an acquired show for a new network. My first task was to dive into research on the brand, discover the benefits that were important to us and create a solid position on which to relaunch.
I then sought to art direct a shoot that encompassed enough material to fuel key art, press photos and 40 weeks of social promotion.
Other skills I leveraged on this project included directing wardrobe and retouching.

This was a side project I did for a friend with a black media focused blog. She knew she wanted a character to embody the confident, sassy female voice she was writing from and we combined that with her love of antique cameo necklaces. The best part was deciding which hairstyle was the best. <3 I hand drew her logo for her and gave her a competent yet abbreviated branding style guide for her to refer to as she self published and self-actualized her own vision.
As an online-only startup the only physical deliverable she needed was a custom branded mic flag to add flair and professionalism to her interviews.
Under the guidance of A Different Kind of Animal, I art directed a new campaign for Cantu hair products that elevated the way products are marketed to black women. Our tone of voice and photo treatments were inspired by instagram. The new campaign used real personalities and shied away from the traditional "models smiling into the camera" positioning to be something more real, coquettish and "come get me" than the brand has ever seen.
We launched the new brand look with compelling "candid" photography for social and 5 video-how tos which were also part of a campaign on taxi TV.
This project was a memorable experience to create and the audience responded by helping Cantu climb to the number two market share residency within the black hair care sector.

PRIDE is an understatement when our marketing team took on the branding of this unique show about a transgender modeling agency. We sent out beautiful press gifts, had a campaign in Times Square and had a VIP kickoff event at the infamous Marquee club.

I styled and art directed the press images, key art and social media initiatives for the final season of the cult classic show Bad Girls Club.
Fun Fact: The most famous person in the room was the bike. Originally used in the key art for the movie, Baby Boy, this bike has had a long career of cameoing in music videos and photography (with a day rate to reflect that) and is a favorite of Snoop Dog.

I was honored to help launch and maintain the visual direction for this in-house podcast that just… took off! In the first 2 years they crossed over the 6 million downloads benchmark that exceeded anything that Daryn, Matt and John might have ever predicted.

I created a light identity and a series of social templates that were visually impactful yet easy to use for non-designers.
We also utilized the ethos of this approach to pivot towards some supportive content during the black lives matter revolution. One of the pieces I produced was one of the top 10 highest engagement posts on our Instagram for the year.
